Each year KLCAS hosts a Point-in-time event to count the sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons in Klamath and Lake Counties.
Affected individuals are encouraged to be counted by attending a Winter Give-A-Way. The resulting numbers establish the dimensions of the homelessness problem and track progress being made towards ending homelessness. KLCAS’s count, in addition to others in our area, helps the community plan services and programs to better address needs, measure progress, recognize community strengths, and identify gaps in the support system.
Last year in 2014, the Point-in-time count revealed 177 homeless individuals in Klamath and Lake Counties. KLCAS and volunteers provided participants with a hot meal, new and gently used outerwear, blankets, sleeping bags, and non-perishable food.
KLCAS is still in need of donations of new or gently used coats, boots, and blankets for this year’s giveaway. Donations can be dropped off at our offices at 2300 Clairmont Drive.
